PPH stands for Primary Pulmonary Hypertension. PPH is a condition where the blood pressure in your pulmonary artery is abnormally high. Your pulmonary artery carries blood from your heart to your lungs. PPH is a very rare disorder, with only 500 to 1,000 new cases documented each year. The individuals most frequently diagnosed with PPH are females between the ages of 20 and 40.
PPH is difficult to diagnose as the onset can take years to develop and for the individual to experience symptoms, such as:
A physical exam may turn up additional symptoms such as an enlargement of the liver and distension of veins in the neck. If you display a number of the above symptoms, check with your physician to see if you have PPH. The sooner you seek treatment for PPH, the better. While PPH can be a terminal condition, if it is caught in its early stages, this condition can be treated through prescription drugs, or in severe cases, transplants of the lung or heart.
While the cause of PPH is unknown in most individuals, there is a strong correlation between people who took the drug Fen-Phen and those with PPH. Many cases relating to Fen-Phen have been resolved, but some remain open due to individuals experiencing further complications from taking Fen-Phen. PPH would qualify as an additional complication that you could be compensated for even if you have already settled your Fen-Phen claim.
Due to the lack of an official known cause of PPH, these cases can be very complicated. If you or a loved one has PPH and took the drug Fen-Phen in the past, it's crucial that you contact a lawyer with experience in this condition and its conneciton to Fen-Phen. The attorneys at Guerra & Moore have extensive experience in trying Fen-Phen and PPH-related cases cases. If you or a loved one has suffered from PPH, contact Guerra & Moore today.
